The Dean's Statement

Hekima College is a constituent College of the Catholic University of Eastern Africa. It provides a good programme of theology that trains all students seeking to serve the Church in her self-actualization in today's world of rapidly changing cultures.

The three year programme of theology consists of required Core Courses, Elective Courses, Seminars and pastoral fieldwork and activities accompanied by pastoral and theological reflection. Studying Theology at Hekima College is an interactive journey to understanding God's wisdom in human history of salvation. The learning process of theology at Hekima College is designed to help the students grasp the brightest triumphs of faith seeking deeper understanding in human experience open to the revelation of the Trinitarian God of the Christian tradition. The path of formation at Hekima College leads the students to the deeper appreciation of the myriad cultures of the world. It deepens a passionate desire to know God who is truth, light and love. The theological formation at Hekima College is rooted in Ignatian pedagogy of freedom and open discussion. It uplifts the social awareness of the students on the tricky issues of justice, the dignity of human person, human rights and the protection of the environment.

The theology of Hekima College is contextualized; it gives a feeling of hope for the future. It integrates the holistic approach of African cultures and encourages the church of Africa to be a peacemaker and agent of reconciliation. It is a School of servant-leadership and good governance, Hekima College is deeply committed to the craft of good theology making. Doing theology at Hekima College confronts students with social, economic and political challenges of Sub Saharan Africa where Christianity is called to play a major role. The studies at Hekima College prepare the ministers of the Gospel to cooperate with all people of goodwill in our pluralistic and interdependent world. Our way of life at Hekima College emphasizes legitimate diversity, multiculturalism, intercultural exchanges, fraternal bonds, sense of celebration and open communication. Students are taught the principles of Christian ethics as motivations for actions. Knowledge and skills received at Hekima College enhance the personal worth of the students and enable them to reach out the needy of societies tormented by civil unrest and other constraints that hinder the integral human development.

I take this opportunity to congratulate all the students and lecturers of Hekima College for their commitment to deepen their passionate love for wisdom that transforms the disruptive forces of poverty and civil unrest into opportunities for authentic evangelization in today's Sub Saharan Africa.
