The Library

LIBRARY CONTENTS:

Monographs: Books which are classified (LCC) and put in order on the shelves according to their main subject matter

Collections: Some books are published in collections and a small number of these are placed together under the main section they deal with, e.g., in Scriptures can be found: The Anchor Bible, Lire la Bible, etc.; in Theology can be found: Cogitatio Fidei, Theology, etc. The majority of books in collections are treated as monographs.

Periodicals and reviews: The issues of the current year are on the Periodical Display Stacks. The back issues are normally bound in annual volumes and placed in the Periodical Stacks. The Periodical Display Stacks only show the reviews we subscribe to or exchange Hekima Review for. However, in the stacks there are many back issues of other reviews we don not subscribe to.

Other Materials: the library houses Video Tapes and CDs which belong to the Human Sexuality Development.

LIBRARY SERVICES:

Circulation and Borrowing:

Eligible Patrons/users: Hekima College students and Faculty in both the School of Theology and the Institute of Peace Studies and International Relations.

KRIC members: Since the Library is part of Kenya Religious Inter-library Committee, members of the committee also have access to our resources with special treatment.

Circulation Loan Periods and Fine Policies:
Students can borrow books for 14 days renewable. Faculty members have a special treatment due to their preparation and research.

Overdue fines are 5 KSh a day starting the day after the due date.

You may renew Items at the Security/Circulation desk.

Interlibrary Loan:

Eligible users (students and faculty) may obtain materials not available at Hekima College Library from other libraries members of KRIC. You need to fill out a form with your name, the name of the other library and the list of books you want to borrow from that library. The form must be signed by the chief librarian.

Loan periods, renewal policies and overdue fines are determined by the lender. Students and Faculty are subjected to the lender's rules and regulations when requesting books from other library.

Course Reserve:

Books on reserve are books recommended by the lecturer of a particular course. In order that the books can be more easily available to all students of that course, they can only be read in the library during the day, but may be borrowed at 4.30 p.m. for overnight or weekend study.  Please return the book before 8.30 a.m. the next morning.

Photocopying:

A copy machine is available at the Security/Circulation desk. The charge is 3 KSh per copy. You must bring appropriate change with you.

DATABASES:

Our holdings can be searched through the computer catalog or the card catalog. Please note that effective January 2004 onwards new books are not found in the card catalog but have been added to the computer catalog. All books old and new should be found in the computer catalog. Our database use InmagicDB/Search Works.
